A big thank you to Michelle, who always post the most interesting writing topics and tips on her blog Aether House, Writing and Life By Michelle Iannantuono, for nominating me for The Liebster Award!   I was actually nominated for this twice, however since Michelle hit me up first, I’m answering her questions.

1.  Do you have, or have you had, a medical condition that altered your way of life?

Myself no.  However when my sister was diagnosed with ALS three years ago, it changed a lot of things, so I think in a sense that has changed my life.

2.  How would you describe your dream home?

A secluded lakeside cabin, but I can bend on the cabin part or even the lake.  As long as it’s near water, I’m game.  However I don’t think I can budge on the seclusion part.  I’ve lived in the boonies for so long that I don’t think I could go back to living “in town.”  I like that I can let my kids play outside and not worry about anything and being disconnected from cell service is actually kind of nice.  Now the satellite internet that goes out every time the wind blows, I can definitely do without.

3.  What is your favorite hobby?  Why?

Aside from reading, because that’s pretty much a given here … I enjoy decorating cakes.

4.   What piece of clothing can you not live without?

I’m not a fashionista or a shopper , so clothes aren’t really important to me.  My sister say’s I dress like a hippie.  I say I dress for comfort.  So, there isn’t really anything that I just must have.  However, I do own a fairly large shoe collection consisting mostly of heels for work and every kind of boot imaginable.

5.   How do you feel about marriage and kids?

Being that I’ve been married for fourteen years and have two kiddo’s, I’d say I feel pretty good about it :).  But seriously, my husband is honestly my best friend.  We share everything and I know that sounds sappy and cliché, but it’s the truth.  That doesn’t mean it’s always easy.  We’ve have our rough spots just as anyone else.  And kids …  whew, they can be work.  A lot of work, but they also bring a fulfillment to your life that is unimaginable until you have them.

6.  What book-to-movie adaptation are you’re dying for Hollywood to make? I’m talking about books that haven’t yet been made into movies, of course (so no Mockingjay!).

I don’t watch a lot of TV or movies and those that I do watch are usually action or war, with the occasional comedy.  And I don’t typically read those types of books, so nothing really comes to mind.

7.  Do you live in the moment or do you plan for the future?

Can I pick both?  I’m a planner by nature.  I plan everything months, sometimes years in advance.  When we go on vacation, I research everything there is to know about the area and make a detailed list of things I want to do and see.  But that doesn’t mean I don’t know how to go with the flow.  If something comes up or veers off my plans, I’m okay with that. But there has got to be some kind of plan in order to begin with otherwise I’ll go a little crazy.

8.    Favorite class in college? (or high school, if you didn’t go/haven’t yet gone to college)?

Several of my criminal justice courses.  I actually took some classes in high school, so I had the same instructor when I went to college.  He was fun and made the class interesting.

9.   Best and worst part of attending weddings?

Best: The smiles on the couple’s face when they are pronounced husband and wife.  It’s like all the anxiety immediately rushes out of them and for a moment they are nothing but happy.

Worst:  I don’t know a worst moment, per se, but I’m not a fan of long, drawn out weddings.  Let’s say I do, smile, eat a little, dance a little, drink a little, cut the cake and call it a day.

10.    Tell me about an awkward or embarrassing moment you’ve had.

Just last week I attended a funeral.  My husbands cousin passed and I noticed that no one was speaking to or offering their sympathies to the man’s daughter. I want to say upfront that we don’t see this family often.  They live out of town, so it’s been a few years since we’ve all been together.  Anyhow, I was a little appalled that no one was consoling the daughter, so I made a point to go up to her afterwards and give her a big hug.  Come to find out that it wasn’t the daughter at all.  It was his son’s girlfriend.  They definitely could be twins, though. When my husband told me my mistake, I was horrified. I’d called her by name or at least by the name of whom I thought she was, but at least now I feel better about the family not leaving her out.  And I apparently wasn’t the only one that made the mistake.
